Commission Types: How Commissions Are Calculated
Commission Type determines how the commission is calculated for an affiliate. Scaleo provides five Commission Types: Flat, Flat by Countries, Flat by Product, Progressive, and Progressive by Countries. This article describes how each Commission Type works and provides examples for CPA, RevShare, and Hybrid (CPA + RevShare) Commission Plans.

Quick Comparison
|
Commission Type |
Description | Available for |
| Flat | Uses one commission rate for all conversions. | CPA, RevShare |
| Flat by Countries | Uses different commission rates for different countries. | CPA, RevShare |
| Flat by Product | Uses different commission rates for different products. | RevShare |
| Progressive | Uses different commission rates based on the player's value. | CPA, RevShare |
| Progressive by Countries | Uses different commission rates based on both the player's value and country. | CPA, RevShare |
| Hybrid | Combines CPA and RevShare commission models in one plan. | CPA + RevShare |
Flat
The Flat Commission Type uses the same commission for every conversion, regardless of the player's country, product, or deposit amount. This approach is suitable when one fixed rate should apply across the entire program, such as a flat CPA payout per FTD. You set one Commission value, which is used for every applicable conversion.
Setup:

| Model | Result |
| CPA | Every conversion pays $50.00 |
| RevShare | A player with $200 GGR generates 25% Γ $200 = $50.00 |
Flat by Countries
Allows you to set different commission rates based on the player's country. This approach is suitable when commission rates need to vary between markets. Set a Commission value for each country that requires a specific rate. You can also add an All Other Countries rate to cover all remaining countries. If All Other Countries is not configured, conversions from those countries are not paid.
Setup:

|
Model |
Result |
| CPA | A German player generates a $60.00 commission; a player from an unlisted country generates $20.00 |
| RevShare | On $200 GGR, Germany generates $80.00, the UK generates $50.00, and an unlisted country generates $20.00 |
Flat by Product
Works similarly to Flat by Countries, but commission rates are configured by Product instead of country. This approach is suitable for RevShare programs where different products require different commission rates based on their performance. This Commission Type is available only for RevShare. An All Other Products rate is required before the Commission Plan can be saved.
Setup:

|
Model |
Result |
| RevShare | On $200 GGR, the Casino product generates $60.00, the Lottery product generates $40.00, and all other products, such as bingo or poker, generate $20.00 |
Progressive
Allows you to set different commission rates based on the player's value. This approach is suitable when you want to automatically increase the commission as the player's value grows. You can configure a series of ranges, for example, based on the deposit amount or GGR. Each range has its own commission value. Only the range that contains the player's value is used to calculate the commission. The commission is not combined with commissions from multiple ranges.
π‘ If a player's value does not fall into any configured range, no commission is paid for that conversion. To avoid this, configure continuous ranges and leave the last range open-ended.
Setup:

|
Model |
Result |
| CPA (FTD Amount) | An FTD of $250 generates a $60.00 commission. |
| RevShare (Monthly GGR) | A Monthly GGR of $11,000 generates 30% Γ $50,000 = $3,300 |
Progressive by Countries
Combines country-based and progressive commission rules. The commission is calculated based on both the player's country and their value. This approach is suitable when commission rates need to vary based on both player value and market.
π‘ All Other Countries applies only to countries that do not have their own configured commission tiers. If a country has its own tiers, but the player's value does not fall into any of those tiers, the conversion is not paid and does not fall back to the All Other Countries rate. To avoid this, leave the highest tier for each country open-ended.
Setup:

|
Model |
Result |
| CPA (FTD Amount) | A UK FTD of $50 generates a $60.00 commission; the same FTD from an unlisted country generates $20.00 |
| RevShare (Monthly GGR) | A German Monthly GGR of $1,200 generates 20% Γ $1,200 = $240.00 |
Hybrid Plans
A Hybrid Commission Plan combines CPA and RevShare commission models. Each model is configured separately and has its own Commission Type and conditions. This approach is suitable when you want to combine an upfront CPA incentive with ongoing RevShare earnings.
Example: CPA is configured as Flat with a $50commission. RevShare is configured as Flat by Countries with Germany at 40%and All Other Countries at 10%.
A German player who deposits and generates $200in GGR generates:
- CPA:
$50.00 - RevShare:
40% Γ $200 = $80.00 - Total commission: $130.00
Things to Watch For
Consider the following points when configuring a Commission Plan:
- No All Other Countries rate β if a Flat by Countries or Progressive by Countries plan includes rates only for specific countries and does not include an All Other Countries rate, conversions from other countries are not paid. There is no automatic default rate.
- CPA and RevShare use separate conditions in a Hybrid plan β each model has its own conditions that a player must meet. Scaleo does not combine the conditions between CPA and RevShare. A player can meet the CPA conditions without meeting the RevShare conditions, so only one of the two commissions may be paid.
- Overlapping range boundaries β avoid ranges that share the same boundary. For example, $0β$100 and $100β$200 both include $100. In this case, the value is paid according to whichever range was entered first. To avoid unexpected results, use ranges such as $0β$99 and $100β$200.
